Service Description

TB Quantiferon Gold (QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus) is a blood test that screens for tuberculosis (TB) infection, including latent TB with no symptoms. It is the TB blood test most often asked for by employers, the NHS, universities and occupational health teams. What it measures: your immune system's response to proteins from the TB bacteria (an IGRA test). Unlike the old skin test, it needs one visit only and is not affected by a previous BCG vaccination. Who it is for: • Healthcare and NHS staff, students and placement applicants • Visa or work-permit applicants whose provider accepts a private TB blood test (please check with them first, as many immigration medicals must be done at an approved clinic) • Anyone starting biologic or immune-suppressing medicine • Anyone who has been in close contact with someone with TB, or has lived in a country with high TB rates Your result: you receive a clear positive or negative result with clinician interpretation, and a report you can hand to your employer or university. If your result is positive, our clinician contacts you to explain what it means and the next steps. A positive result does not on its own mean you have active TB. Sample: blood, taken at the clinic. Preparation: no fasting needed. Please avoid booking the working day before a bank holiday, as the sample must reach the laboratory quickly. Turnaround: 4-14 working days.
