Beta hCG is a quantitative blood pregnancy test. It measures the exact level of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in your blood, so it is more sensitive than a urine test and gives you a number, not just a yes or no. What it is used for: • Confirming pregnancy early, from around 7-10 days after conception, before a home test turns positive • Checking that hCG is rising as expected in early pregnancy (levels roughly double every 48-72 hours) • Reassurance after IVF or fertility treatment, or after a previous miscarriage • Follow-up after a pregnancy loss, to check levels have returned to normal Repeat test: one result shows your level on the day. If you want to see whether your hCG is rising, book a second test 48 hours after the first. Our team can book both appointments for you. Add Progesterone: many women add progesterone to their hCG test for extra reassurance in early pregnancy. Ask us when you book. Sample: blood, taken at the clinic. Preparation: no fasting needed. You can book at any time of day. Turnaround: 1-3 working days. Please note: this test does not replace your midwife or GP.
