Please check the current list before booking: www.easytests.co.uk/test-availability The IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor-1) blood test measures IGF-1, a hormone made mainly in the liver in response to growth hormone (GH). Growth hormone is released in pulses and changes through the day, while IGF-1 stays much more stable, so IGF-1 is the standard blood test used to assess growth hormone activity. What it is used for: • Checking for growth hormone deficiency or GH insensitivity • Investigating signs of too much growth hormone (acromegaly in adults, gigantism in children) • Monitoring IGF-1 during or after treatment for a growth hormone condition, as advised by your specialist Your result: IGF-1 levels vary with age and sex, so your report shows your result against an age-specific reference range, with clinician interpretation. Results outside the range usually need follow-up with your GP or an endocrinologist. Sample: blood, taken at the clinic. Turnaround: 1-3 working days.
