The hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) is a blood marker that indicates past or current infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). What the Test Detects The test looks for antibodies against the core of the Hepatitis B virus. There are two types: • IgM → shows recent or acute infection • IgG → shows past infection (stays positive for life)
