An advertised blood test price often covers the laboratory analysis only. The blood draw, the written report, any clinical consultation and any retest can each be charged separately. Ask what the total is before you book, not at the clinic.
Why do two identical tests have different prices?
Usually because they are not identical purchases. One price includes the sample collection and a report; the other is the laboratory fee with collection charged on top. Comparing headline figures across providers tells you very little unless you know what each one covers.
The blood draw fee
Home-kit providers commonly charge extra if you want a venous draw at a clinic instead of collecting your own finger-prick sample. In the UK that supplement typically runs between £25 and £35. On a £39 test, a £30 draw fee nearly doubles what you pay.
Where a collection site is a third party rather than the seller's own clinic, someone has to be paid for the phlebotomy. That cost appears somewhere, whether it is itemised or built into the price.
The report
There is a real difference between a list of numbers with reference ranges and a report that flags what is outside range and explains what the marker is. Some providers include written clinical commentary. Others return results and leave interpretation to you or your GP. Both are legitimate; they are not the same product.
